Success in the music business at any level requires dedication, persistence, energy, passion and a belief in your own abilities. It simply isn't good business to wait for an audition, be proactive and make things happen!

 

 

 

Things that are a must if you are to succeed in the music business 

  • Always make sure you have had adequate tuition in your chosen field

  • Never stop learning and always be prepared to take advice and turn negative comments into positive ones

  • Only perform at recognised concerts and showcases that will further your career and learning experiences

  • Always act and look professional

  • Always be relaxed and confident

  • Always be prepared for what you are about to undertake

  • Always arrive on time for appointments

  • Always reply to all correspondence promptly

  • Always be committed to your career

  • Always listen and learn from experts in the music industry

  • Keep important issues regarding your career private

  • Be constructive with your social life/spare time, do not waste it, as it will become in short supply if you are to make it in the music industry

  • If you are still studying at school or college make sure you keep your work/projects up to date and strive to get good exam results

  • Discuss and inform your parents, loved one or close friends of everything you do

  • Be extremely careful and if you have any problems let someone know

  • Respect your tutor or personal coach as they are there to guide and assist you

  • Above all always enjoy everything you do

Things That You Should Never Do If You Are To Succeed In The Music Business

  • Do not have too many late nights, especially the day before you are doing something regarding your career

  • Do not drink to much alcohol

  • Do not smoke

  • Do not take drugs

  • Do not have a serious boyfriend/girlfriend that makes too many demands on you and your time, as this could ultimately jeopardise your career

  • Do not let anyone invade your own private space

  • Do not think about starting a family (having children) until your career is well established

  • Do not join or become active in any political party

  • Do not except any offer of work from a company that does not have an office in a good location that you are free to visit at any time. A company that it has a fixed phone line, not just a mobile

  • Never pay to receive SMS (text) messages

  • Do not register with a company who insists on 'model training' or which holds castings and interviews in hotels.

  • Do not sign any contracts until you have read everything and always involve your parents, loved one or close friend in the discussion making. Should you have any doubts don't sign the contract and if needs be consult a lawyer specialising in entertainment contracts

  • Do not disregard your manager or agent, as they are the ones who will provide you the work

  • Above all, do not keep problems to yourself, share them with your family, friends or loved ones
